AI Configuration

Fine-tune how AI processes, categorizes, and scores your team's ideas.

Overview

IdeaLift uses AI throughout the idea pipeline — from the moment feedback is captured to the point where it is prioritized for your roadmap. Every AI feature can be independently configured, tuned, or disabled entirely.

Access AI settings from Settings > AI & Automation in your workspace.

AI Features

IdeaLift ships with four core AI capabilities. Each operates independently and can be toggled on or off.

AI Formatting

Rewrites raw chat messages into clean, structured idea titles and descriptions. Strips noise, fixes grammar, and extracts the core request.

Deduplication

Detects when a new idea is semantically similar to an existing one. Flags potential duplicates so you can merge or dismiss.

Auto-Categorization

Assigns categories (feature request, bug report, improvement, question) based on the content of each idea. Categories are customizable.

Signal Scoring

Evaluates the strength of each idea based on factors like specificity, user sentiment, and how many people have requested similar things.

Configuring AI Settings

Each AI feature has its own configuration panel. Common settings include:

SettingApplies ToDescription
Enabled / DisabledAll featuresMaster toggle for each AI capability
Confidence thresholdDedup, CategorizationMinimum confidence score to auto-apply a result (0–100%)
Custom categoriesCategorizationAdd, rename, or remove the categories AI assigns
Scoring weightsSignal ScoringAdjust how much weight specificity, sentiment, and volume carry

Custom Prompt Templates

For advanced control, you can override the default prompts IdeaLift uses for formatting and categorization. This lets you inject domain-specific context.

Example: "This workspace is for a B2B SaaS product. Categorize ideas as: core-platform, integrations, billing, onboarding, or ux. Ignore off-topic messages."

  • Navigate to Settings > AI & Automation > Prompt Templates
  • Select the feature you want to customize (Formatting, Categorization, etc.)
  • Edit the prompt template. Use the {{idea_text}} placeholder where the idea content should appear.
  • Test your prompt on a sample idea before saving

AI Accuracy Tips

  • More context improves results. Ideas captured with surrounding conversation context (via the /idea capture command) produce better formatting and categorization than single-message reactions.
  • Correct miscategorizations. When you manually fix a category, IdeaLift learns from the correction and improves future accuracy for your workspace.
  • Keep categories focused. Three to seven well-defined categories work better than twenty overlapping ones.
  • Review the dedup threshold. If you see too many false positives (unrelated ideas flagged as duplicates), raise the confidence threshold. If duplicates are slipping through, lower it.
  • Use domain-specific prompt templates. Generic prompts produce generic results. Adding your product vocabulary to the prompt template significantly improves accuracy.

Disabling AI Features

If your team prefers manual control, you can disable any or all AI features. When disabled:

  • Formatting off — Ideas are saved as raw text from the original message
  • Dedup off — All ideas are accepted without duplicate checking
  • Categorization off — Ideas arrive uncategorized; you assign categories manually
  • Signal scoring off — Ideas show no signal score; prioritization is fully manual

Toggle features individually under Settings > AI & Automation. Changes take effect immediately for new ideas. Existing ideas are not re-processed.
